Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), and the International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA) at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen and promote scientific cooperation and research collaboration between the two institutions.
Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has released the results of its intensive six-year study on the Prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Qatar – the first of its kind to be conducted in Qatar and the Gulf region.
The study was carried out by QBRI’s Neurological Disorders Research Center (NDRC), which focuses on investigating the increasing prevalence of neurological disorders in Qatar and the region, including conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

A year ago, Wafa Trad (JD ‘19) had just completed the second year of her studies at HBKU’s College of Law. During the summer of 2018, she had the privilege of participating in the Hague Academy of International Law, a three-week intensive course on international law. While in The Hague, she visited the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, which is housed in the Peace Palace.
These cultural references are prominently on display as the State of Qatar celebrates its most revered day of the year -- the Qatar National Day (QND).
Every year, on December 18, aspects of Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani’s poetry form an intrinsic part of the QND emblem, resonating in each corner of what has today become modern-day Doha, and clearly interlinking heritage with present.

In the past 20 years, there have been more than 100 attempts to develop an effective drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease, but only four have been approved by the US Federal Drug Authority (FDA) for instance.
In fact, there are currently only two classes of drugs available, and both aim to treat certain symptoms of Alzheimer’s, rather than finding a cure for the disease.
Alzheimer’s is a major worldwide problem. It is a degenerative brain disease and the most common cause of dementia.
The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) offered its perspective on the architectural legacy of the Mamluk era at a seminar held on May 23 at the University of Oxford, UK.
Dr. M. Tarek Swelim, associate professor of Islamic art and architecture at CIS, led the seminar and discussed the era of the Circassian Mamluk Sultan, Al-Mu’ayyad Shaykh, who ruled over Egypt and Bilad al-Sham in the early 15th century.
