Hamad Bin Khalifa University Symposium Positions Islamic Psychology As Essential Part of Mental Health Systems

Leading scholars and experts convened at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) to advance the practical application of Islamic psychology within mental health service delivery. 

Hosted by the College of Islamic Studies (CIS), the ‘2nd International Symposium on Islamic Psychology: Integrating Islamic Spirituality Across Mental Health Services in the Middle East’ embodies HBKU’s commitment to scholarship that attends to regional needs while contributing to relevant global debates in the field. Building on the success of its inaugural event, this year delved deeper into the institutional challenges of spiritual integration, focusing on policy and patient care.

Discussions examined cultural distinctions within local and regional Arab contexts, identifying opportunities and barriers that influence care delivery. Participants also addressed the need to destigmatize and expand access to critical support. In doing so, the symposium helped define future directions for research, education, and clinical practice, ensuring that Islamic Psychology remains evidence-based and responsive to societal needs.
