CSE Develops Method to Diagnose Cardiovascular Diseases

Leveraging state-of-the-art techniques in artificial intelligence (AI), scientists at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), have proposed a novel AI-enabled system that can be used to diagnose cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) based on retinal (innermost, thin, light sensitive layer of eye) images and bone health data.

Maker Majlis: A Transformative Space for Youth to Unmute their Ideas on Sustainability

Youth with the drive to make the world more just, equal, and inclusive are finding a progressive educational space to think creatively and innovatively through Maker Majlis – a platform under the College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). 

The idea behind the Maker Majlis initiative is to find ways for youth to connect Islamic values with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and work as a collective to identify problems and solutions.

QEERI is leading state-of-the-art research

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is enhancing its corrosion research capabilities with the commissioning of a new testing facility for examining hydrogen interaction with metals. 

Established under QEERI’s Corrosion Center, the facility will contribute to the development of knowledge-based predictive models. These will help Qatar’s major industries cope with the challenges related to materials integrity towards establishing a hydrogen economy.

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a type of lipid that is endogenously synthesized in most mammalian organisms and in the animal kingdom in general. It is composed of carbons and hydrogen atoms linked by covalent bonds and is classified as an unsaturated type of lipid because it contains double bonds. Cholesterol occurs in foods of animal origin such as egg yolk, meat, liver, and cow brain.

Dr. Logan Cochrane, Associate Professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP), has published a chapter titled ‘State Power and Citizen Agency: Reframing the Power Narrative in State-Society Relations in Ethiopia’ in a comprehensive, interdisciplinary survey of contemporary research related to the Horn of Africa. The chapter features in the “Routledge Handbook on the Horn of Africa”, edited by Jean-Nicolas Bach and other leading scholars.
