Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s College of Science and Engineering (CSE) hosted the 17th International Conference on Persuasive Technology from March 29-31. The virtual event facilitated a lively knowledge exchange between academics, researchers, and industry practitioners in the field of behavior design and persuasive technology (PT) - aimed at influencing people’s attitudes or behaviors. 

A specialized workshop ‘Photovoltaic (PV) Robot Cleaning’, organized by Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), drew over 100 international delegates from academia and industry. The virtual workshop aimed to share knowledge on addressing the challenges facing the solar PV industry, particularly those related to soiling and cleaning.

According to the World Bank, one billion people - or 15% of the world's population - experience some form of disability. This number is increasing as populations age and chronic health conditions rise. As a result, governments worldwide consider disability an important group when establishing policies, laws, and regulations. This aligns with efforts on the global stage, such as the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in 2006.

A pilot plant project operated by Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), which uses Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP) to remove micropollutants from treated sewage effluent (TSE), is delivering promising results. The joint research project with the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ will drastically enhance water sustainability in Qatar and the region.

A recent webinar organized by Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Law examined challenges and new developments in public procurement. Drawing on experiences from Qatar and jurisdictions around the world, the discussion highlighted how the public procurement process can be used strategically to encourage innovation in the public sector.

The Education City Innovative Entrepreneurship Program - an initiative of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) - is open to applications from entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas that align with Qatar National Vision 2030. Shortlisted applicants will be offered capacity building training and kickstarter funding from HBKU Innovation Center, the university’s innovation and entrepreneurship platform.
