New study has implications for understanding the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases

Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently published a paper in the high-ranking “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” (PNAS) scientific journal which reported novel findings related to the molecular mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s, dementia with Lewy bodies, and Alzheimer’s diseases.

Maker Majlis Hosts Team Building for Youth Advocates

Maker Majlis, a collaborative platform under the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently hosted a workshop for Generation Amazing youth advocates titled “Sports for Humanity, Development and Peace: Design and Ideation Training”. Dr. Evren Tok, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Innovation and Community Engagement at CIS, presented the training alongside Bayan Khaled, Research Fellow, and Alina Zaman, Research Assistant.

HBKU Receives Major Grant from Barzan Holdings to Advance Quantum Computing

In recognition of its steadfast commitment to building Qatar’s innovation and technology capacity, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has received a major research grant from Barzan Holdings, Qatar’s leading industrial defense provider. The grant has a monetary value of $10 million and will be used towards implementing a national initiative on quantum computing.

High-level discussions at the conference

The College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) presented an international conference “Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Development and the Halal Economy: Concepts, Framework and Practice” on March 27-28. The conference was a result of a collaboration between the college, Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA), and Qatar Development Bank (QDB) - two key stakeholders in the Qatari entrepreneurship ecosystem.

World Autism Awareness Day is commemorated on April 2 every year to spread awareness about this disorder, and the different challenges it imposes on individuals and families. World Autism Awareness Day was first proposed in 2007 at the United Nations (UN), by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation. Since then, April 2 has been declared as World Autism Awareness Day.

The workshop witnessed the participation of CSE faculty

Qatari and international geoscientists and engineers gathered in Doha for the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) Well Injectivity/Productivity and Reservoir Management in Carbonates (WIPIC) Workshop from March 21-23. The fourth edition had a new and broader multidisciplinary focus on carbonate reservoirs, which hold more than half of the world’s oil and natural gas reserves, many located in the Middle East, including Qatar.
