A student at the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has received recognition from the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSSCR) for her outstanding research on diabetes.

Dr. Mohammad Farhan, Assistant Professor at the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS), talks about how optogenetic-based techniques can be used to revolutionize medical treatments and replace drug-based methods.

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) participated in the 2019 Annual BRISMES Conference, in Leeds, UK, from June 24 to June 26. The conference was hosted by the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies and the University of Leeds’ Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (AIMES) Department in the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies.  

“Arabic is impossibly difficult to learn;” despite relentless attempts to dispel the long-held belief that Modern Standard Arabic (also known as fusha) is unlikely to be easily absorbed by non-native speakers, linguists agree that Arabic is no different than any other language when it comes to conjugation, form, and pronunciation. 

The State of Qatar's mission to the United Nations in New York organized a side event on the role of assistive technology in helping autistic people on the 12th Session of the Conference of the States Parties (COSP) in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

With evident ease, Sara Al-Tamimi dons her laboratory coat and slips on a blue glove, taking special care not to tear it apart as she does so. 

Al-Tamimi, who graduated from the College of Health and Life Sciences’ Master of Science in Biological and Biomedical Sciences program this past May, had committed to specialized breast cancer research for 24 months. Like the distinct group of people around the world who have opted for the field of research as a permanent or temporary occupation, Al-Tamimi is in quest of possible answers to crucial questions.

Executive Director of Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Dr. Ahmed K. Elmagarmid, has received the SIGMOD Contribution Award. He was recognized for his dedicated service to the database research and development community in North America and the Middle East, in his capacity as the founder and editor of the Distributed and Parallel Database journal, and Chair for the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Management of Data (ACM SIGMOD). Dr.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press’s newly-released children’s book The Light of Hope was named winner in the 2019 International Book Awards (IBA) in the category of Children’s Mind/Body/Spirit. The book, originally published in Arabic by HBKU Press under the title Kandil Alma in late 2018, was written by celebrated children’s author, Basma El Khatib.

Students from the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently traveled to the Kingdom of Jordan, to complement their studies within the college’s Master of Science in Islamic Art, Architecture and Urbanism program.
