HBKU Press has released several new educational books for children just in time for the new school year. The books, including Alphabet Songs (Aghani Al Horoof), My Happy Language (Loghati Saeeda), and Melodies of the Forest (Alhan al Ghaba), are available in Arabic and vary in themes that both endorse the Arabic language and encourage curiosity and creativity among children.
A recent colloquium held at the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) explored ‘Women and Work: Changing Legal Norms and Practices.’ Held in conjunction with the Qatar Financial Centre, the session brought together leading workplace experts to share unique insights into the topic.

Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently hosted the closing session of the fifth edition of its annual Summer Research Program, which provides participants with valuable insights and hands-on laboratory research experience in the areas of diabetes, neurological diseases, and cancer.

In line with its mission to provide the local community with a high-quality education in translation, interpretation, and foreign languages, the Translation and Training Center at the Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is offering several workshops for the 2019-2020 academic year.
HBKU Press’s academic platform, QScience.com, recently published an article highlighting data on the significant increases in BMI trends among Qatari adolescents from 2003 – 2009. The article, which is available free to download from QScience’s Open Access journal, QScience Connect, also calls for the implementation of routine BMI monitoring for Qatari adolescents aged 12–17.
Doha has been designated the youth capital of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for 2019. In this piece, Dr. M. Evren Tok, Associate Dean of Innovation and Community Advancement at CIS, and Bayan Khaled, Research Fellow at CIS, share how Qatar is creating new opportunities to focus on humanitarian action, youth empowerment and mobilizing collective efforts to tackle global challenges.

In his feature titled ‘Revolutionizing the Way We Tackle Diabetes,’ Dr. Paul J. Thornalley, Director of QBRI’s Diabetes Research Center, addresses the increasing global prevalence of diabetes and its related challenges, stressing the importance of a healthy life style in the prevention of type 2 and highlighting QBRI’s research on stem cell therapy which is applicable to both types of diabetes.
