Under a newly concluded Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Translation and Interpreting Institute Language Center (TII-LC), part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), will cooperate with the Center of Applied Linguistics (CLA) at the University of Franche-Comté, France, on educational exchanges.
A recent tax colloquium organized by the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) was the platform to discuss a charter on taxpayer rights and tax administration obligations for Qatar. The event took place online with participation by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority, Ernst and Young Qatar, and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

Dr. Logan Cochrane, associate professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP), participated in the Qatar Faculty Forum: Discussion on Student Visibility held in February. Dr. Cochrane discussed his research on the ethics of big data, private companies, and visibility. He was joined at the seminar by speakers from Qatar Foundation partner universities, Carnegie Mellon Qatar and Northwestern University, who discussed, among other aspects, technological solutions to address cultural sensitivities around visibility and maintaining privacy.

Dr. Chefi Triki, Associate Professor in Engineering Management and Decision Sciences at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), recently won the Research and Innovations Award in Water Science in the Scientific Publication Category (PhD holders) for his paper “An Artificial Intelligence Approach for the Stochastic Management of Coastal Aquifers.” Dr. Triki was among 10 overall winning projects in the fourth edition of the award, out of 95 local and regional competitors in various categories.

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), showcased its research and pilot projects during the eighth Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) and second Qatar International Environmental Exhibition (EnviroteQ), held at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) from March 23-27. QEERI’s Water Center showcased the consultancy and evaluation services that the institute provides for irrigation, groundwater treatment, and liquid waste disposal treatment for agricultural initiatives and farms.
African Studies Quarterly has published an article jointly authored by Dr. Logan Cochrane, associate professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), and Sebsib Hadis, assistant professor at Wollo University, Ethiopia. “Farmers Buying Guns: The Impact of Uncertainty and Insecurity in Rural Ethiopia” critically examines the proposed reasons for the expansion of the weapons trade in Ethiopia and reflects on what the trends in 2020 may imply for the future of insecurity and conflict in the country.
