The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) held an on-campus information session for prospective students on February 23. Dr. Mounir Hamdi, CSE Founding Dean - and faculty - presented an overview of CSE’s 13 specialized graduate and undergraduate programs in high-demand fields such as information and computing technology, energy and environment, sustainable development, and engineering management and decision sciences.

Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Founding Dean of the College of Public Policy (CPP), delivered an online presentation to the Governance and Public Policy Think Tank (GPTT) at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. His topic was “Policy Advisory Networks: Refreshing the Second Wave”. With around 40 faculty and graduate students in attendance, Dr. Pal shared some research findings from his work on global public policy making, and how policy advice gets channeled from global to domestic policy arenas and back.

Maker Majlis at the College of Islamic Studies (CIS), in collaboration with Qatar Scientific Club, held an ‘SDG Education and Design Boot Camp’ on January 29, where participants learned, explored, and developed educational tools to teach the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs). The interactive boot camp is part of the major Qatar National Research Fund cluster grant “SDG Education in Qatar” and the first workshop of its kind designed to create SDG-related educational tools.

Historic and contemporary issues impacting the study and knowledge of the region formed the backdrop for the inaugural Middle East Conference, which took place on February 6-7.

As Qatar gears up to host the first ever FIFA World Cup tournament held in the Middle East - an event expected to leave an exceptional legacy for future generations - National Sport Day provides a further reminder of the marked impact that sport is having on society. 

Dr. Anis Ben Brik, Associate Professor and Founder of the College of Public Policy’s program for social policy evaluation and research (PROSPER), spoke at the European Network of Social Authorities’ (ENSA) annual meeting on January 25. His presentation was titled: “The Impact of COVID-19 on the Senior Population” and highlighted data showing that the Delta and Omicron variants have elevated mental health crises among older people (65+) across 23 European countries.

The College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) highlighted its degree offerings at a recent Graduate Studies Information Session. Programs at CHLS aim to prepare graduates to work on improving the quality of life and the human condition. At the virtual session on January 27, future and prospective students heard from faculty members and the admissions team to gain more insight on the curriculum and research opportunities, as well as program application requirements.
