HBKU seeks applications for an open rank faculty position at any rank (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) in fields related to Sustainable Energy and Environment with a strong Science or Engineering focus to join the Division of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. Particular emphasis is for candidates with a background in one or more of the following areas: outdoor air quality and modelling; climate-change mitigation and CO2 sequestration/utilization; sustainable energy production and grid-integration, energy storage; transportation; agricultural science; water/wastewater engineering; sustainable urban development/smart cities; materials and nanomaterials; upstream oil and gas engineering and downstream gas processing; coastal and marine protection; solid and hazardous waste management; remote sensing.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical and environmental engineering.
  • Develop a strong, externally funded research program.
  • Collaborate with industry and government stakeholders to advance Qatar’s national goals.
  • Contribute to curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Mentor postdoctoral researchers.
  • Provide services to the Division, College, the University, and the Profession by serving on committees and contributing to key initiatives.
  • Contribute to the broader research and innovation ecosystem at HBKU.

  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline, with a strong focus towards environmental management, protection of human health and well-being, circular economy, renewable energy systems, materials, or resource efficiency.
  • Excellent research track record, demonstrated by relevant publications in top-tier conferences and high-impact journals as well as successful funding acquisition.
  • Adequate teaching and advising experience at the postgraduate level, including the successful completion of PhD students.
  • Evidence of service to the university and profession
  • Preference will be given to candidates with education from and/or previous work experience in pre-eminent institutions of higher education.
  • Senior candidates applying for Professor must have demonstrated strong leadership in the field.
  • Candidates applying for Assistant Professor are generally expected to have some postdoctoral experience, Associate Professor are generally expected to have at least 5 years of academic experience, and those applying for Professor are expected to have 10 years or more of academic experience.
  • A knowledge of local and regional education awareness is an advantage.
