Founded in 2015, HBKU’s College of Law is a graduate-level law school located in Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The College of Law offers four degrees: Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Economic and Business Law, Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law and Foreign Affairs, and Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) It is a world-class provider of legal education with an international reputation for quality and innovation in teaching and research whose graduates contribute positively to shaping the legal profession and society in Qatar and beyond.
HBKU seeks applications for faculty positions to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. Candidates will be appointed at the rank of Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications, teaching, and research experience. Successful candidates would teach in the College’s JD, LL.M., and/or S.J.D. programs. The applicant will be responsible for teaching, conducting research, and performing service in the vibrant HBKU community, which is devoted to becoming a world-class research university. Also, to collaborate with faculty members and students to improve and contribute to the development of Qatar and the region by advancing knowledge and developing human capacity in the legal field.
- Conduct assigned courses or seminars to contribute to the students’ learning.
- Supervise independent study activities to guide students in achieving their academic and professional goals.
- Serve as an academic advisor to students to guide them in their course and thesis selection.
- Serve on the chair of the university and College committees.
- Render service to the professional or lay community relevant to academic specialty.
- Direct research programs of undergraduate/graduate students and advise on research matters.
- Conduct research in the field of specialization and publish findings in scholarly journals or books.
- Serve on faculty committees dealing with such matters as curriculum planning and degree requirements, and perform a variety of administrative duties.
- Participate in curriculum development activities, including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods to further improve the university/college teaching materials.
- Conduct research or undertake comparable scholarly activity to contribute to HBKU’s vision of becoming a leading research university.
- Supervise research projects and theses to ensure the success of research projects and students.
- Seek funding support for research to help make HBKU a world-class research university.
- Actively contribute to the intellectual life of a talented, vibrant, and unique legal community at the College, the University, and beyond.
- Teach both introductory and specialized courses in law.
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- PhD or terminal degree in law from an accredited university.
- Evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development.
- Research and scholarly achievements are judged competent and adequate for the relevant rank in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
- Significant national, regional, and international reputation in scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university.
- Ability to work with and lead diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
- Evidence of significant national, regional, and international networks and collaborations in both teaching and research activities.
- Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
- A superior academic record, with demonstrable evidence of, or strong potential for, excellence and innovation in scholarly research, teaching, and service.
- A track record of research excellence, as the College has a priority on research.
- Experience in teaching courses in foundational areas of law, such as constitutional law and torts.
- Specialization in areas relevant to the region and the University, including data privacy, artificial intelligence, and healthcare law.
- Ability to integrate international and comparative law perspectives across core subject areas.
