Clinical Psychologist

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) was established as a hub for contemporary Islamic studies, promoting intellectual discourse on Islam within a global context.   • Provide individual and group psychotherapy sessions to clients with various mental health concerns, applying evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and evaluations for clients, including diagnostic interviews and psychometric testing.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans for clients, setting measurable goals and objectives.
  • Offer clinical supervision and guidance to graduate trainees, ensuring their professional development and adherence to ethical standards.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the progress of clients in therapy, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support for clients in acute distress or experiencing emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and assessment reports, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses, to provide holistic care for clients.
  • Maintain and develop the knowledge of the latest developments in the field of clinical psychology by attending workshops, and seminars, and pursuing ongoing education.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of clinical services and maintain accreditation standards.
  • Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies seeks applications for the position of Clinical Psychologist. The applicant will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical psychotherapy, psychological assessments, and extensive clinical supervision to graduate trainees within an outpatient mental health setting, in order to enhance client well-being, improve trainee competencies, and the advancement of evidence-based practices in mental healthcare.

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • License to practice as a psychologist in the State of Qatar.
  • 6-8 years post-licensure mental health experience in a college counseling center or other relevant setting.
  • Strong leadership training and leadership experience.
  • Experience in presenting at international conferences.
  • Experience in a college counseling center providing multi-culturally competent individual, couples, and group counseling or equivalent.
  • Experience providing supervision to Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Associates or equivalent fields such as supervising doctors in training.
  • Strong knowledge of confidentiality for patient-counselor privilege.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Fluency in both Arabic & English languages and ability to provide bilingual counseling.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.

  • The clinician shall work in the capacity of a clinical psychologist/Psychological Counsellor and educator, the current duties and responsibilities of which are outlined below.
  • Provide psychological evaluations and clinical psychotherapy at the CIS Psychology clinic.
  • Offer some intermittent supportive teaching in the Masters of Counseling Psychology program.
  • Provide cognitive and psychological evaluations for our agencies school partners or university-based settings.
  • Attend bi-monthly Islamic Psychotherapy trainings and weekly staff meetings.
  • Provide clinical supervision to trainees and/or junior clinicians.
  • Offer shadowing sessions.
  • Be onsite at the CIS clinic to manage crises.
  • Offer direction to students.
  • Lead a supervision group with the students.
  • Offer individual supervision meetings.
  • Present at occasional speaking engagements, training, seminars, or workshops within the community.
  • Lead or co-ordinate support groups on and off-site.
  • Complete all administrative forms and tasks related to the role of being a clinical psychologist at the clinic, including participating in meetings on billing and administrative processes if so required.
  • Adhere to the religious and professional ethics that pertain to his/her profession as a Muslim professional.
