- Conduct assigned courses or seminars to provide high-quality education and foster academic excellence among students
- Supervise independent study activities to guide students in their research and academic pursuits
- Serve as academic advisor to students, supporting their academic and professional development
- Serve as mentors to students, helping them connect their academic studies with real-world applications and guiding them in their career paths
- Serve on and chair university and College committees to contribute to the governance and strategic planning of the institution
- Participate in various university service activities, such as departmental initiatives and community engagement, to enhance the institution's impact and reach
- Render service to the professional or lay community, which is relevant to the academic specialty, contributing to the advancement of the field
- Participate in curriculum development activities, including the development of curricular materials and special instructional methods, to ensure the curriculum remains current and effective
- Represent HBKU by attending conferences, workshops, and other professional development activities to stay updated with the latest developments in the field and to network with other professionals

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is seeking applications for a faculty position as an Associate Professor of Practice in English. Applicants must hold a doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition, Professional and Technical Writing, Second Language Writing/Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
We welcome candidates from a wide range of specializations who have demonstrated excellence or strong preparation in teaching undergraduate writing. Expertise or interest in areas such as scientific writing, Professional and Technical Communication, Rhetoric and Public Speaking, Second Language Writing, and Generative AI is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will contribute to HBKU’s mission of becoming a world-class research university and support CHSS’s efforts to provide high-quality, innovative instruction that fosters human capacity development in Qatar and the region. The position includes teaching General Education courses in English and writing for HBKU’s undergraduate engineering programs, as well as broader service contributions to a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in certain fields
- 6-8 years of relevant full-time university teaching experience in research, higher education, or closely related areas in the industry (additional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity
- Good evidence of proficiency in teaching, student supervision, and curriculum and program development
- Research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of Associate Professor in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities
- Good evidence of participation in the scholarly and academic affairs of a university or other appropriate organization, or in an appropriate professional society or organization
- A growing portfolio of scholarly endeavors (funded research grants, publications, IP/patents, etc.) in comparison with peers active in the same field at a major research university
- Good evidence for an increasing regional and international reputation in the scholarly discipline
- Ability to work with and ability to include diverse groups, cultures, and communities
- Participation in developing networks and collaboration within HBKU, and with program partners and branch campuses in both teaching and research activities
