The Mechanical Engineering Program division under the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) is inviting applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is in the field of Engineering Design, with preference given to candidates with expertise in data-driven and AI-augmented design methods, model-based design for complex products, design for smart and resilient systems, human-centered and bio-inspired design, sustainable and circular design, and design for reliability, safety, and high performance under extreme environments.

Candidates with expertise in integrated virtual-physical design workflows, as well as those who advance innovative engineering design education through project-based learning, multidisciplinary design experiences, and entrepreneurship-oriented curricula, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Outstanding candidates with exceptional research and academic records may be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering and engineering design.
  • Develop a strong, externally funded research program related to engineering design.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations and foster partnerships within CSE and HBKU.
  • Collaborate with industry and government stakeholders to advance Qatar’s national goals.
  • Contribute to curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels by integrating modern design tools.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Supervise senior design projects and student capstone teams.
  • Mentor postdoctoral researchers.
  • Provide services to the division, college, the university, and the profession by serving on committees and contributing to key initiatives.
  • Contribute to the broader research and innovation ecosystem at HBKU.

  • A Doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in higher education, research institutions, or industry. Additional years of experience are required for candidates to be considered at the Associate Professor rank.
  • Demonstrated scholarly record, with a relevant Ph.D. dissertation and publications in reputable, high-impact journals.
  • Evidence of strong commitment to teaching excellence and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional and institutional services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, cultures, and communities.
