Maker Majlis, a platform under the College of Islamic Studies (CIS), highlighted positive football rolemodels during its educational workshop on ‘Football and Global Inequalities’, delivered at the Generation Amazing Youth Festival 2022. 

With the attendance of more than 250 international school students, representing the 32 nations competing in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, the festival started on October 22 with training by Generation Amazing coaches on ‘Sport for Development’. Participants then had the opportunity for more specialized training in breakout rooms.

As part of this segment, Dr. Evren Tok, Assistant Dean of Innovation and Community Engagement and Associate Professor of Islam and Global Affairs at CIS, presented a virtual training session on “Football and Global Inequalities”. Against the background of the most pressing inequalities around the globe, Dr. Tok highlighted examples of active football players engaged in philanthropy, charity, and other humanitarian and developmental work to help address these challenges. In keeping with the event’s aim to give youth a voice, the session’s interactive approach focused on the tools for them to champion the Sustainable Development Goals in their societies. 

In its biggest edition to date, the festival will continue alongside the FIFA World Cup. This year, the Youth Festival is part of a year-long legacy and learning journey to support Goal 22, Generation Amazing’s flagship ‘Sport for Development’ international exchange program. With the support of various partners, including Qatar Foundation, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and other Qatari entities, the program is designed to ensure a lasting legacy for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM that embodies social responsibility.
