Lecture formed part of college’s Visionary Leaders Program
Alija Izetbegović’s remarkable contribution to the creation and shaping of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina was the subject of a lecture organized as part of the College of Islamic Studies’ (CIS) Visionary Leaders Program.
Delivered by Dr. Bisera Turković, Deputy Prime Minister and Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Leadership Through Faith: Alija Izetbegović’s Guiding Principles outlined his commitment to fostering peace amidst conflict, as well as his reflections on Islam, democracy, and humanity. In doing so, the lecture considered his philosophical works, including "Islam Between East and West," and his pivotal role in achieving Bosnian independence. Consideration was also given to the principles of faith, resilience, and wisdom, as well as how his approach to reconciliation can address contemporary global challenges.
Leadership Through Faith: Alija Izetbegović’s Guiding Principles was moderated by Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail Elamin, Professor and Program Coordinator of the CIS’ Master of Arts in Islam and Global Affairs (IGA). Dr. Recep Şentürk, Dean, CIS, delivered opening remarks, elaborating on the innovative nature of the IGA program and its value in connecting philosophy to practical global affairs. The lecture was also attended by ambassadors and diplomatic staff based in Doha from Argentina, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Democratic Republic of Congo, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, South Africa, Sudan, and Turkey. Proceedings concluded with a Q&A session and further interventions from participants.
