The College of Public Policy (CPP) is pleased to announce that Professor Sultan Barakat has been appointed by the Council of the University of Johannesburg as a Distinguished Visiting Professor within the Faculty of Humanities, for a five-year term.
This prestigious honorary appointment recognizes Professor Barakat’s outstanding contributions to peace and conflict studies and his leadership in advancing critical dialogue in the humanities and social sciences. As Distinguished Visiting Professor, he will engage with faculty, students, and research partners at the University of Johannesburg’s Qatar–South Africa Centre for Peace and Intercultural Understanding (CPIU), undertaking collaborative research initiatives.
Professor Barakat commented: “I am deeply honored by my appointment as Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg. This recognition represents not only a personal milestone but also an opportunity to build meaningful academic and cultural bridges between the Middle East and Africa, with South Africa as a vital hub of dialogue, reconciliation, and innovation. I look forward to learning from Africa’s diverse political experiences and rich traditions of peacemaking, while contributing to new pathways of cooperation and understanding. My hope is to strengthen the ties that unite our regions, fostering knowledge that transcends borders and nurturing a shared vision for peace and inclusive development.”
