The College of Public Policy (CPP) is pleased to announce that Dr. Sultan Barakat has been appointed to the Editorial Board of the International Review of the Red Cross for the 2026–2030 term.
Published by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in partnership with Cambridge University Press, the International Review of the Red Cross is one of the world’s oldest academic journals, founded in 1869 and spanning more than 155 years of leading scholarship on international humanitarian law, policy, and action. The Editorial Board brings together distinguished international scholars and practitioners to help shape critical global debates on humanitarian affairs.
Following the appointment, Dr. Barakat participated in the inaugural online meeting of the new Editorial Board, where members engaged with senior ICRC leadership and contributed to discussions on the Review’s strategic direction and thematic priorities. Board members also examined forward-looking topics that could meaningfully strengthen the protection of people affected by armed conflict and other forms of violence in future.
Dr. Barakat’s appointment is a significant recognition of his longstanding contributions to international development, humanitarian policy and post-conflict recovery. It also reflects the College’s continued commitment to advancing impactful, globally engaged scholarship.
The CPP warmly congratulates Dr. Barakat on this achievement and looks forward to the impact his appointment will bring to both Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the Review.
