Continuing its role as a thought leader on public issues, the College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) will participate at the 9th AMEPPA Global Conference on Public Policy and Administration in the Middle East from December 8-9. 

In keeping with its commitment to foster intra-disciplinary dialogue, the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently hosted a symposium titled Labor Rights in Qatari, Regional and International Legislation, which highlighted Qatar’s ongoing legislative and judicial efforts. Expanding on the role of legislation and judicial applications across different categories of workers, a distinguished panel featured Hon.

The Earth’s driest ecosystems are a study in extremes: They can be blazingly hot stretches of sand like the Sahara Desert or shatteringly cold expanses of ice such as those in Greenland and Antarctica. 

These arid regions receive very little annual precipitation, and the effects of climate change in these ecosystems are poorly understood. A joint effort between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Qatar Foundation (QF) aims to address that, and, in the process, help communities that are being impacted by those changes.

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, aims to achieve the lowest temperature coefficient measurement uncertainties with Eternalsun Spire long pulse xenon flasher. The temperature-controlled laboratory flasher is a critical piece of equipment used by QEERI to provide key data and performance control to the 800MW Al Kharsaah solar park, ensuring optimization and long-term quality control of the solar plant.

The world is passing through an exceptional phase with the current existing circumstances and due to rapidly developing global context; the pandemic effected the rise of violent extremism and has created challenging dynamics such as religious and ethnic tension, mental health issues and domestic violence that need to be addressed. The impact of crisis on violent extremism and radicalization has been increased in many countries.

Dr. Leslie Pal, Dean of CPP, participated in welcoming a global audience to the launch of the Designing Post-COVID Humanity (DPCH) event on November 2, 2020. The College of Public Policy is a sponsor and partner of this initiative, and proud to support it over the next six months as it engages youth from Qatar, the region, and the world to confront the challenges that lie ahead in a post-COVID world. Dr. Anis Ben Brik, Associate Professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), was a plenary speaker at the 2020 National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) Annual Conference. Taking place November 10 – 13, the virtual event brought together academics, students and practitioners with an interest in family science and related topics.

In line with its mission to advance positive transformation at home while having a global impact, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has participated as a partner at WISH 2020.

Efforts to assist policymakers in accurately forecasting and responding to COVID-19 outbreaks, as well as supporting the next generation to pursue a career in biotechnology, provided the context for two webinars recently organized by the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
