The College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has participated in a major collaborative research project using computational approaches to identify drug repurposing opportunities for treating COVID-19.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) has released a new Qatar-themed young adult book in honor of Qatar National Day 2020, titled Hayakom, now available in English and forthcoming in Arabic.
Students from Qatar Foundation’s Tariq Bin Ziad School and Qatar Academy – Sidra schools, as well as students from Doha British School were treated to a virtual story-telling session as a part of their Qatar National Day celebrations.
Faculty at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have been awarded two substantial three-year research grants under the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF)-TÜBİTAK Joint Funding Program. The competitive third cycle of the program was held under the theme of ‘Smart Cities’.

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, recently announced its most successful cycle of the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) Graduate Student Research Award (GSRA) program yet, with 17 students receiving a scholarship.
The program, now in its seventh cycle, was launched to promote the most deserving students QNRF believe will go on to promote a world-class research culture in Qatar, and who will contribute to the nation’s research and development (R&D) mission.

In keeping with its vision to advance knowledge with significant positive impact, the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) will convene the 12th International Exergy Energy and Environment Symposium (IEEES-12) from December 20-24.
The virtual IEEES-12 is co-organized with KAHRAMAA as a strategic partner, and sponsorship from Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). Other international event partners are the National Hydrogen Association, Turkey, and Ontario Tech University, Canada.

The College of Islamic Studies at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) explored the potential of green finance in Qatar during a joint workshop with the Qatar Financial Centre on December 2-3. Nexus of Green Finance and Islamic Finance set out to assist policymakers as well as key private sector actors to identify alternative and innovative approaches for raising financing for green projects. Unlocking climate finance can play a key role in achieving Qatar’s climate change mitigation and adaptation goals.

The College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has participated at Sidra Medicine’s Fifth Precision Medicine and Functional Genomics Symposium (PMFG 2020) held virtually from December 5-7.
From “the beginning of time” until the discovery of oil, pearling provided employment and sustenance for the populations of the Gulf sheikhdoms. As the central activity of the region, pearling also shaped the social and cultural outlook of the region. It was alluring and feared at the same time, sometimes associated – as in the 1972 Kuwaiti film “Bas ya Bahr” – with greed, misery, and obstinacy. Even during the pearl boom of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, pearling was a dangerous and often thankless enterprise, structured along hierarchical and racial lines.
