Biomedical research is a rapidly evolving area, with new insights and advancements being made at an accelerating pace. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has clearly illustrated the exponential amount of data and scientific manuscripts being produced and made public every day. Since the pandemic emerged in December 2019, there has been a surge in research studies and academic papers, with more than 23,000 unique scientific articles published between January 1 and June 30, 2020. It is estimated that the number of articles doubles every 20 days. 

Artificial intelligence (AI) is penetrating all aspects of our daily lives, but to what extent will it have an impact on Qatar’s labor market? This question was central to an innovative study conducted by the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) hosted the 12th International Exergy Energy and Environment Symposium (IEEES-12) virtually from December 20-24. The prestigious global symposium brought together academics, scientists, engineers, and others working on sustainable energy systems, with the aim of promoting the exchange of high-quality research results that can help develop new policies and scientific progress towards achieving sustainable development.

Dr. Mowafa Househ, associate professor at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has delivered two talks organized by institutions in the USA and Canada, in an effort to strengthen international collaboration. During a guest lecture at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, New York, Dr. Mowafa spoke on AI for Mental Health: Challenges and Opportunities.

Dr. Edward Stuenkel, founding dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently participated in the Qatar-Poland virtual roundtable, organized by the Embassy of Poland in Qatar.

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, recently announced its most successful cycle of the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) Graduate Student Research Award (GSRA) program yet, with 17 students receiving a scholarship.

The program, now in its seventh cycle, was launched to promote the most deserving students QNRF believe will go on to promote a world-class research culture in Qatar, and who will contribute to the nation’s research and development mission.

Over 600 students participated in the second edition of the Young Innovator Award competition, organized by the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU). Students from local, community, and international schools in Qatar displayed their insights on the topic of mitigating climate change.
