An upcoming event will focus on the ethical concerns relating to vaccine development and delivery, both from an Islamic and public health perspective, particularly in the context of current efforts to tackle COVID-19. During the event, experts will discuss vaccines in terms of their research, manufacturing, testing and clinical trials, regulation, and distribution.
“COVID-19 and Vaccination Ethics: Science, Morality and Policies” will take place online from 6 PM to 8 PM Doha time (GMT+3) on Wednesday, August 11.

Q. What do you think Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s strengths are, and how do we shape our students to become global citizens?
A. Many universities don’t have the research focus that we have; those students get a curriculum and programs that are ‘textbook learning’. But at research universities such as HBKU, the faculty who are teaching are the same faculty who are involved in cutting-edge research, and so the information students are receiving is the most up to date.
Dr. Anis Ben Brik, associate professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP) and founding director of the Program for Social Policy Evaluation and Research (PROSPER), presented a paper titled “Social Policy Amid the Global Pandemic: Policy Responses to the COVID-19 Crisis in the Middle East and North Africa” at the 2021 Social Policy Association (SPA) Annual Conference on July 7.

Dr. Leslie Pal, founding dean of the College of Public Policy (CPP), and Dr. Logan Cochrane, associate professor (CPP), were the guests at a cultural gathering on June 21, at the invitation of Her Excellency Samia Zekaria, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Qatar. The event welcomed Their Excellencies, ambassadors from Haiti, Rwanda, Morocco, Mexico, Algeria, and Turkey, as well as leaders of intergovernmental organizations and members of the business community.
