Food and water scarcity, extreme heat, health hazards and economic losses are among the many threats that have pushed climate change to the forefront of global challenges in recent years.
However, the world still struggles to meet its ambitious plans to mitigate the negative impact that industrialization and a growing world population have on natural ecosystems.
Even worse, global plans to protect the environment risk being derailed as countries around the world struggle to cope with energy shortages and disruptions in supply chains.

As a new academic year begins, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has welcomed back several high-achieving alumni to continue their studies. Their paths after graduation have been as diverse as their academic interests and specializations, but their successes reflect the way HBKU shapes its graduates to become leaders making a significant impact in their fields.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has welcomed new and returning students back to campus to begin the 2022/2023 academic year. A two-day orientation on July 24-25 included a virtual experience and an in-person event at Multaqa that brought the academic community together.
Drawn from a strong applicant pool, and with a marked diversity in their academic and professional backgrounds, over 350 new students are set to begin their journey at HBKU. Around 100 Qataris are among the new batch of students enrolled across HBKU’s 36 multidisciplinary programs.
The Sponsored Research Office (SRO), part of the Office of the Vice President for Research, in collaboration with Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), held a series of Intellectual Property (IP) workshops during June 2022.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) has welcomed the beginning of this year’s summer season, which officially began on June 21. As summer offers students on school holidays plenty of time for rest and other extracurriculars, younger readers are encouraged to enjoy some reading initiatives and learn more about the Earth, the environment, and efforts surrounding sustainability they themselves can get involved in right away.
Dr. Anis Ben Brik, Associate Professor and Founding Director of the Program for Social Policy Evaluation and Research (PROSPER) at the College of Public Policy (CPP), participated at the international Largefam - Bringing Large Families Back on the Policy Agenda conference.
