HBKU Press Publishes Together……Apart, a New Publication Documenting Life in Confinement Due to COVID-19

Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) has published the outcome of a global call for submissions launched in April 2020 for literary and/or artistic works inspired by life in confinement due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the personal changes that have occurred as a result of the world in crisis. 

The book, titled Together……Apart, compiles the personal thoughts, reflections and analysis of over 100 individuals from around the world and is now available online as an Open Access book found on the HBKU Press website.

Women of the Middle East Podcast - A Q&A

Earlier this year, Dr. Amal Al Malki, Founding Dean of Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) in Qatar, started the ‘Women of the Middle East’ podcast, which expands on themes in her book ‘Arab Women in Arab News: Old Stereotypes and New Media’, and connects to topics covered within the college’s Master’s degree program in Women, Society and Development. Scientists from Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) and Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have jointly published the first risk score to screen for prediabetes in the Middle East, where prevalence is one of the highest in the world.

Student Spotlight: CHLS Student Delighted to Join ‘Gastronauts’

Reem Hasnah, who is studying for a Master of Science degree in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at the College of Health and Life Sciences, has become a co-host of Gastronauts, the podcast with the mantra ‘where the gut meets the brain’.

Now in its second season, the podcast has seen over 2,000 plays and has more than 100 subscribers. The 30-minute episodes highlight the choices, philosophies, and underlying drive of humans devoted to the discovery of gut-brain matters.

CPP Professor Participates in International Advocacy Workshop

Dr. Anis Ben Brik, an associate professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently participated in the 8th Edition of the International Advocacy Workshop. Organized by the International Federation for Family Development, the three-day event featured experts, speakers and participants from 34 countries, representing UN agencies, research centers, academia, and Non-Governmental Organizations. Dr. Brik presented the preliminary findings of his international project on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on family life across cultures.
