HBKU’s Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute Hosts ISO Meeting to Discuss Worldwide Corrosion Standards for Oil and Gas Industry

Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently hosted a meeting of Working Group 11 of the ISO Technical Committee (TC) 67, tasked with managing and developing worldwide standards for the corrosion protection of materials, equipment, and offshore structures used by the petroleum and natural gas industries. TC 67 is a joint standards committee between the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), and Qatar is represented in both organizations by industry experts, including Dr. Hanan Farhat, senior research director for the Corrosion Center at QEERI. The virtual meeting of Working Group 11, which witnessed the participation of over 27 international corrosion and coating experts, reviewed some of the current corrosion and coating standards, discussing modifications and proposals for new standards. QEERI Corrosion Center, one of the first in Qatar to focus on mitigating the challenges related to corrosion, undertakes projects that are based on industry demands and includes research, development, and innovation projects, technical consultancy, and service delivery.
