Laboratory Instructor in Mathematics

HBKU seeks applications for the position of Laboratory Instructor in Mathematics. The applicant will be responsible for supporting undergraduate teaching and learning activities in Precalculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II through recitation sessions and computational laboratories. The Laboratory Instructor will play a key role in reinforcing mathematical concepts, supporting problem-solving skills, and delivering Python-based laboratory sessions aligned with course objectives. The role involves close coordination with course instructors to ensure consistency, academic rigor, and effective student engagement. 

  • Deliver recitation sessions for Precalculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II courses to reinforce lecture content and support student learning outcomes.
  • Conduct Python-based computational laboratory sessions to illustrate mathematical concepts, numerical methods, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Prepare and update laboratory exercises, worksheets, and computational activities under faculty supervision to ensure alignment with course objectives.
  • Grade the laboratory assignments, quizzes, homeworks, and other assessments in accordance with faculty-prepared guidelines.
  • Provide academic support to students during laboratory sessions and scheduled office hours to enhance conceptual understanding and analytical skills.
  • Coordinate with course instructors to ensure consistency between lectures, recitations, and computational laboratory activities.
  • Maintain and organize course-related instructional materials, laboratory documentation, and computational resources.
  • Support the effective use of Python and relevant educational technologies for undergraduate mathematics instruction.
  • Monitor student progress in laboratory and recitation sessions and provide feedback to faculty as needed.
  • Promote good academic practices, including proper use of computational tools, ethical conduct, and academic integrity.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of laboratory content and teaching methodologies based on student feedback and course needs.
  • Perform other reasonable instructional or academic support tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Prior teaching, tutoring, or instructional support experience in undergraduate or post-secondary mathematics courses is highly desirable.
  • Strong academic background in Precalculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II, with the ability to clearly explain foundational and advanced concepts.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python for instructional purposes, including numerical computation, visualization, and basic scientific programming.
  • Ability to design, deliver, and support computational laboratory sessions that reinforce mathematical theory through practical applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and student success, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and academic support.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing instructional materials, assessments, and laboratory activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and academic support teams in a structured academic environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and learning management systems used in higher education.

  • Availability to teach multiple recitation and laboratory sections per semester in accordance with the division's scheduling needs.
  • Ability to work effectively within a structured academic environment and adhere to institutional policies, procedures, and timelines.
  • Commitment to maintaining accurate academic records and complying with assessment and reporting requirements.
  • Flexibility to support extended or non-standard laboratory sessions when required by course delivery needs.
  • Familiarity with academic integrity policies and willingness to uphold institutional standards in teaching and assessment.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and punctuality in all instructional and academic support activities.
