Admission ‘Open House’ Draws ‘Unprecedented Attendance’

More than 200 prospective students interested in graduate studies attended Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Graduate Studies Open House. Held twice this academic year, the event provided potential candidates with opportunities to connect with key staff, learn about entry requirements, and much more.

College of Law Hosts Second Clinton W. Francis Lecture in Legal Professionalism

The College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently hosted the second Clinton W. Francis Lecture in Legal Professionalism. Qatari lawyer Sultan Al-Abdulla, Founding Partner, Sultan Al-Abdulla & Partners and the former general counsel to Qatar Energy, presented the lecture. Professor Clinton W. Francis of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, HBKU Law’s Founding Dean, for whom the lecture is named, provided the response to Mr. Al-Abdulla’s presentation. HBKU College of Law’s Dean Susan L.

Sports Translation: Sidestepping the Challenges

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM is fast approaching and the translation of tournament-related news and web material is accelerating. FIFA’s translators alone interpret nearly three million words in each of its four official languages per year. With teams from 32 different countries speaking roughly 20 different languages, a high volume of content is expected to sweep social media both during the tournament and long after the winning goal has been scored, while TV coverage in several languages is expected to reach billions of viewers.

HBKU Inaugurates UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law, Sustainable Development

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) officially launched the UNESCO Chair on Environmental Law and Sustainable Development on October 5. The inaugural Chairholder, Dr. Damilola S. Olawuyi (SAN), Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the HBKU College of Law, presented his first lecture setting out his vision for the Chair. 

The high-level launch also featured keynote speeches by Qatari officials as well as senior UNESCO representatives and a panel discussion with foremost experts on environmental law and sustainability.
