The long, painstaking battle to develop immunotherapy against Parkinson’s disease has received a positive boost with a team from Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), providing the novel diagnostic technology used in a series of promising clinical trials in Europe.
A highly informative and wide-ranging discussion on ‘COVID-19: Faith, Public Policy and Gender Nexus’ took place via a webinar hosted by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
The online discussion shed light on the significant connection between faith, public policy and the gender nexus in relation to the current pandemic, which has dominated everything in the world for the past few months.
With the recent influx of authors submitting their manuscripts to Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) for publication, the editorial team has developed guidelines for aspiring authors to follow to ensure that their submission packages are successful, and their manuscript moves on to publication.

The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a dramatic toll in terms of human lives, reminding us of the fragility of the human species on this earth. It has also shown us the vulnerability of our economic systems.
Indeed, the current crisis is exacting a toll on the financial stability of our societies. In the USA alone there are more than 21 million unemployed people (13% of the workforce), while just before the current crisis (January 2020), the unemployment rate was at 3.5%. A similar trend is showing in other major economies, such as the Eurozone.

Training dogs to detect COVID-19 carriers may help increase screening, and thus aid in combating the pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2), has led to more than 460,000 deaths to date, with several times more people being infected by the virus worldwide. Initially manifesting as fever and dry cough, the disease may lead to difficulty in breathing, chest pain, a loss of speech, and physical movement. In some cases, it may prove fatal.
Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press’ (HBKU Press) newly released children’s book The Firefly is a finalist in the Children’s Picture Book (illustrative 6 years and above) category of the 2020 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The book is written by first-time Qatari children’s author, Ameera H. Al-Naemi.
Dr. Leslie A. Pal, Dean of the College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), recently participated in an online discussion organized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Network of Schools of Government and the Public Management and Budgeting Network. CPP is a member of the Network of Schools, representing leading national schools of public administration and governance in over 60 countries.

China reported the first case of COVID-19 in December 2019 and within a few months it had spread to more than 213 countries, infecting around 8.3 million and killing almost 450,000 to date.
The impact of this pandemic has been huge, as it has brought the whole world to its knees. There are hopes that by the end of the year it will mostly be gone, but by then it will have caused unprecedented damage.
