A webinar organized by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has highlighted the experiences of women and feminist activists in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) when they engage in digital spaces.

The College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), in collaboration with the Doha Forum and Stimson Center, convened a panel discussion examining the findings of the Doha Forum 2020 Report on the theme of COVID-19 recovery. 

One PhD student and one faculty member at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have been recognized with Oman’s National Research Award 2020 in the Young Researcher’s category. Dr. Yusuf Bicer, assistant professor of Sustainable Development, and Mohammed Al-Breiki, PhD student and researcher in sustainable energy program, were named winners in the category of best published research led by a young researcher (non-PhD holder) in the Energy and Industry Field.

The Program for Social Policy Evaluation and Research (PROSPER) at the College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is presenting a new Master Class on Program Evaluation, which is being offered on January 27 and 28 as part of the Design Post-COVID Humanity: Taaruf, Taawun, Tarahum (DPCH-3T) initiative. This master class will be delivered by Dr. Anis Ben Brik, associate professor at CPP, founding director of PROSPER and partner in the DPCH-3T initiative.

On January 24, 2021, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) launched the first in a series of public online webinars, titled, A Picture Worth a Thousand Words, hosted by HBKU Press senior editor and best-selling children’s book author, Jameela Sultan Al Mass Al Jassem, along with a set of distinguished panelists including award-winning Arab children’s book authors and illustrators. 

The College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently marked the launch of a newly published book Local Content and Sustainable Development in Global Energy Markets, which was edited by Dr. Damilola S. Olawuyi, associate professor at HBKU’s College of Law.

Bridging Islam, social media and COVID-19 in a unique and revealing way, the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) will host #IslamGenZ, a two-day panel discussion and debate on “Islam and Social Media” and “Islam and COVID-19”, on January 26 and 27. 

Dr. Leslie A. Pal, dean of the College of Public Policy (CPP), and two faculty members, Dr. Andreas Rechkemmer and Dr. Anis Ben-Brik, were recently elected to the Executive Board of the Association for Middle Eastern Public Policy and Administration (AMEPPA). Their appointment is an opportunity to share their thought leadership and professional knowledge with scholars and professionals in fulfilment of AMEPPA’s mission to advance peace, prosperity and good governance in the Middle East.

A forthcoming talk being presented by the College of Public Policy (CPP) and the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), will shed light on the changing dynamics and increased ties between the United Kingdom (UK) and Gulf State countries. The guest speaker will be His Excellency Jonathan Wilks CMG, British Ambassador to Qatar.
