Doha, August 17, 2023 - As part of efforts to guide younger generations towards understanding the importance of environmental conservation, students of Al-Arabi Sports Club's Summer Program paid a special visit to the Conservation Center of Plant Resources of the Qur'anic Botanic Garden (QBG), a member of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
There are plenty of reasons why we should recognize and celebrate the diverse and vibrant spectrum of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). According to the latest survey from the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 44 children aged 8 have been diagnosed with ASD in the United States of America (USA), while in Qatar the prevalence rate is 1.14% amongst 5–12 year-olds. Put another way, ASD is a common condition impacting communities around the world.

My background brings together Islamic Studies and Social Sciences. I studied for a BA in Religion and Pedagogy at Marmara University and then an MA in Sociology at Istanbul University, before getting a PHD in Sociology from Columbia University.

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) hosted Islamic theologian and imam Dr. Yasir Qadhi, Dean of the Islamic Seminary of America, for a talk titled “Dealing with Anxiety in Light of the Sirah” on January 17, 2023.
Dr. Qadhi discussed how the Sirah - or biography - of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) can serve as a guide on how to deal with stress and anxiety, highlighting how the Prophetic model can help combat assuage feelings of distress and overcome grief.

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) hosted Dr. Wael Hallaq, Avalon Foundation Professor in the Humanities at Columbia University and award-winning author, for a special talk titled “What is Post-Orientalism?” on January 10, 2023.
In his address, Dr. Hallaq argued that while post-orientalism is integral to many academic disciplines, it should nevertheless be remolded for the present day and freed of its malevolent tendencies.

In recognition of outstanding scholarship by early-career researchers studying at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), Anjud Khamis N. Al-Mohannadi, a PhD student in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences program at the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS), has been named by Sidra Medicine as the “Top Research Specialist Author of 2022”.
