Postdoctoral Research Fellows in Islamic Ethics (3 positions)

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) was founded as a hub for contemporary Islamic studies, fostering intellectual discourse on Islam within a global framework. Offering ten graduate and postgraduate programs, CIS prepares students for careers in academia, research, as well as cultural, business, and finance sectors through specialized tracks. It also hosts renowned research centers and clusters, facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue and scholarship. CIS integrates academic Islamic principles with modern social sciences, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and scholarship.

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE) is part of the College of Islamic Studies, which leads the reform and renewal of contemporary Islamic legal and ethical thought and behavior by contributing a sustainable ethical framework for addressing contemporary global challenges.

HBKU invites applications for three fully funded Postdoctoral Research Fellowships. These positions are designed for outstanding early-career researchers seeking to transform their doctoral dissertations into a publishable monograph or to develop a new post-doctoral project for publication in CILE’s Studies in Islamic Ethics book series.

  • Postdoctoral Fellows will focus primarily on their individual research project for publication, while also contributing to the vibrant intellectual life of the Center. 
  • Successfully completing the agreed-upon research project within the designated fellowship period (concluding by December 31, 2026).
  • Actively participating in the intellectual life of the Center by attending and contributing to research seminars, workshops, and public lectures.
  • Contributing to CILE’s educational mission, which may include offering occasional guest lectures or providing support for the M.A. program, if required.

  • A Ph.D. degree in Islamic Studies, Applied Ethics, or a related field, obtained within the last five years (or have successfully defended their dissertation by the start of the fellowship). 
  • 0-3 years of relevant research experience as a postdoc.
  • A strong research background and demonstrated engagement with both the theoretical foundations and applied dimensions of Islamic Ethics.
  • A proven record of high-quality academic research and/or a promising publication trajectory.
  • Full professional proficiency in either English or Arabic is required. Proficiency in both languages is a significant advantage.
