CPP Faculty Discusses Food Security Challenges at McGill University Speaker Series

Dr. Logan Cochrane, Associate Professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP), participated in the 2021 Speaker Series organized by the Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID) at McGill University, Canada on October 28. His presentation “Progress, Challenges, and Future Options for Food Security in Ethiopia” focused on the research he presented in his newly-published book.

“Ethiopia and Food Security” highlights the role of issues that are not often associated with food security research in the country, such as migration and debt. Dr. Cochrane spoke about the participatory approach which identified how research often renders invisible the purposeful and insightful choices farmers make, and consequently also the programs and services that would align with their priorities. In analyzing how the evidence about food security is shaped, the book highlights avenues for re-envisioning research methods, particularly as policy and services encounter politics. Dr. Cochrane concluded his presentation with options and opportunities that are available for strengthening food security.
