The Maker Majlis at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS) hosted a special research conference to highlight the impact of humanitarian work in wake of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Held in collaboration with a host of local humanitarian institutes, the conference featured a series of panel discussions and a poster exhibition revolving around the theme, “Humanitarian Action from Response to Recovery: The Turkey and Syria Earthquakes”.

International experts gathered to share experiences and insights into the challenges and opportunities that exist within the humanitarian sector, especially within Turkey and Syria, and local organizations took the opportunity to highlight their efforts and discuss the impact of their work with their peers.

“The humanitarian work carried out in the wake of these devastating earthquakes contained critical insights that could supplement future efforts to aid people in need, especially Muslim communities. CIS provides a uniquely composed platform that contributes to the intellectual debate and constructive dialogue on Islam in a global context ,” said Bayan Khaled, Research Fellow, HBKU’s CIS.

CIS is a result of a visionary approach to Islamic studies and the thought leadership that defines its contributions on the national, regional, and global scales.
