CIS, IUPUI, Nama Foundation, and WCMP Co-Host Muslim Philanthropy Roundtable

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS) collaborated with Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy (IUPUI), Nama Foundation, and the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists (WCMP) to co-host the Muslim Philanthropy Roundtable, a John Templeton Foundation Project.

Held at Minaretein, the Roundtable featured interactive panel discussions featuring renowned experts in Muslim philanthropy and networking opportunities for scholars, practitioners, and other stakeholders in the field. The Roundtable aligned with the John Templeton Foundation’s mission to fund research in critical areas - including philosophy and theology - by sparking discussions on topics ranging from perspectives on the Islamic practices of sadaqah, zakah, and waqf, to an exploration of how religious values and traditions inspire philanthropy.

“This collaboration between academic institutions and non-profit organizations highlights the depth of intellectual dialogue within the field of Muslim philanthropy and the importance of providing networking opportunities for experts in this unique sector.  I am proud to share HBKU’s and CIS’ innate dedication to dialogue to overcome borders,  facilitate expertise and build capacity in Qatar and beyond through the organization of this Roundtable,” said Dr. Mustafa Elamin, Professor of Islam and Global Affairs and co-organizer of the Muslim Philanthropy Roundtable, HBKU’s CIS.

The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) provides a unique platform that contributes to critical intellectual debates on Islam in a global context, through its blended academic programs and an immersive learning experience; as well as its distinguished research division, which includes several research centers and clusters.
