Dr. Hassan Hakimian’s visit reflects China’s rich tradition of Middle Eastern academic studies
Dr. Hassan Hakimian, Professor and Acting Dean, Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), attended separate forums focused on Middle Eastern studies hosted by Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and Fudan University.
Dr. Hakimian participated in the Inaugural Session of SISU’s 8th International Forum on Asia and the Middle East, which took place between September 16 and 17. This year’s edition, held under the theme ‘The Middle East Security and Development in the Global Context,’ brought together participants from China and around the world to engage in five thematic workshops. Dr. Hakimian also delivered a seminar for SISU faculty and students on the topic of ‘Economic Sanctions: Foreign Policy Tool or Weapons of Mass Destruction.’
He then participated in Fudan University’s 4th Forum on Middle Eastern Studies, held under the theme, ‘The Middle Eastern Reconciliation and the Roles of Great Powers.’ Dr. Hakimian drew from his expertise leading CHSS’ Middle Eastern Studies department to engage in insightful conversations with his peers on how prominent players on the international stage could contribute toward the solidification of friendly relations throughout the Middle Eastern region.
Reflecting on his visit, Dr. Hakimian observed: "Middle Eastern studies has a well-established academic and policy tradition in China and it is expected that this will expand over the coming years. Both SISU and Fudan universities are renowned academic institutions and home to well-established Middle Eastern studies centers. I am optimistic about the future of our academic collaboration with both organizations."
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) was established with a vision to enrich society in Qatar and across the wider world with transformative educational experiences that bridge disciplinary boundaries and offer the academic community opportunities to engage in innovative research and collaboration.
