Join Grade 11 students of Qatar Academy-Sidra (QAS), as they present and share their experiences working on the transadaptation of “The Arrival”, a graphic novel by Shaun Tan.

Earlier this year, QAS students engaged with Dr. Joselia Neves, Associate Dean for Social Engagement and Access at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), and with students and teachers of Al Noor Institute for the Blind to learn about vision impairment and alternative communication.

This included analyzing the graphic novel at length, identifying and decoding its central elements to determine the storyline, scripting the audio description, drawing and tactilizing relevant frames, and building 3D models for vision impaired ‘readers’. The audio-descriptive narratives were produced in the recording studio at CHSS.

This event is held in collaboration between CHSS at HBKU, Qatar Academy-Sidra (QAS), Al Noor Institute, and Qatar National Library
