This seminar will showcase the results of a study that examined how bilingual Arab academics at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) navigate language choice in research and publication.
The study looked at faculty interviews from four colleges at HBKU. It examined how university policies, methods for evaluating research, and global publishing standards influence the way scholars work and view their roles.
The study found that the dominance of the English language within HBKU significantly affects faculty members, creating structural pressures that marginalize Arabic-language scholarship, despite Qatar’s efforts to promote bilingualism.
This seminar will delve into these issues in detail and provide guidance on how to support bilingual scholarship and promote fairness in knowledge sharing within higher education, particularly in postcolonial contexts.
The event will be held in English.
