The lecture, being part of the lectures delivered by the Research Division of HBKU’s CIS, will go through the contemporary financial transactions in light of the Shariah maqasid (objectives) and the current needs and requirements. It will cover the Islamic banking products in light of such needs to identify which is Shariah-compatible and which is not. The lecture will also analyze the main Islamic banking products to identify which is likely to be adopted or rejected, or limit such products to certain terms and controls to make them acceptable from the maqasid point of view.

The foundations of what might be called Islamic psychology were perhaps first laid by polymaths such as Abu Zayd Al-Balkhi who coined terms such as Al-Tibb Al-Ruhani to describe spiritual and psychological health. Al-Balkhi was the first to differentiate between neurosis and psychosis, and is considered by some to have pioneered psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine. He was also an advocate of music therapy.
