Sīrah of the Prophet (PBUH) Conference: Prophetic Guidance in Peace and War
Conference Overview
The Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contributions to Civilization (MBHCC) announces “Prophetic Guidance in Peace and War” as the theme of the 2025 Sīrah of the Prophet (PBUH) Conference, in recognition of the richness of Prophetic guidance on matters of war and peace. This includes the establishment and spread of peace, the prevention and settlement of wars and conflicts, and the formulation of rules and legislation to address the consequences of both peace and war.
The current state of international relations, marked by the absence of justice, the usurpation of rights, the seizure of property, the subjugation of the vulnerable, the imposition of wars, and the deliberate fueling of discord among nations, calls for special attention to the issue of war and peace. It necessitates reminding the world, particularly leaders, thinkers, and opinion-makers, of the fundamentals and values of human relations. Chief among these is the pursuit and preservation of justice among nations, as well as the establishment of decisive legislation to prevent conflict and foster peace.
It is well understood among scholars concerned with religious matters that this goal represents a fundamental part of Islam's message. The ongoing wars—such as those in Palestine between the occupying forces and the Palestinians, in Sudan among brothers, rulers and segments of the governed, in the plight of Muslims in Myanmar, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the suffering of minorities, particularly Muslims, in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and other societies and nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin and South America, all necessitate amplifying the voice of reason, the spirit of religion, and the guidance capable of resolving problems, settling disputes, and ensuring peace and justice.
As such, the center invites scholars and researchers from Qatar and beyond to participate in this conference to enrich the discussion on this topic from various perspectives and to highlight the Prophetic guidance, presenting it to the modern world, a world lost in the midst of contradictory stances and bewildered by political ignorance
Conference Themes
The conference will comprise five specialized panel sessions, including a student panel demonstrating youth perspectives:
- The Legal Foundations of Prophetic Guidance in Peace and War
- International Relations in Light of Prophetic Guidance
- Peace and War in Prophetic Practice
- Conflict Management between Prophetic Guidance and International Law
- A Contemporary Reading of Prophetic Guidance in Light of Global Conflicts
The conference will be held in English and Arabic with live interpretation for both languages.
Chair’s Message
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
It is with great honor and anticipation that I welcome you to this year’s Sīrah of the Prophet (PBUH) Conference, themed “Prophetic Guidance in Peace and War.” The selection of this topic is both a scholarly imperative and a moral necessity, given the stark challenges facing humanity today.
The life of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) offers us a model of principled leadership rooted in justice, compassion, and wisdom. His example in dealing with conflict, through treaties, diplomacy, and, when necessary, warfare, reveals a coherent and ethical framework grounded in divine guidance. By revisiting this legacy, we not only enrich our academic discourse but also explore viable pathways toward peace, equity, and reconciliation in today’s world.
This conference reflects our deep commitment to re-centering the Prophetic model in the analysis of modern global crises and drawing upon that model to seek solutions for the pressing challenges of our time.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the participating scholars and institutions, and I hope this gathering inspires fruitful discussions and transformative insights.
Dean’s Message
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Sīrah of the Prophet (PBUH) Conference. This year’s theme, “Prophetic Guidance in Peace and War,” is not only timely but also responds to the urgent moral and humanitarian challenges our world faces.
At a time when humanity is confronted by the tragedies of war, injustice, and deepening global polarization, the ethical and practical model offered by our beloved Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) stands out as a beacon of wisdom and hope. The balance he struck between mercy and justice, his unwavering commitment to peace, and his disciplined restraint in conflict offer enduring lessons for today’s fractured world.
This conference brings together scholars, researchers, and students to engage with the Sīrah not merely as a historical account, but as a living tradition, one that has the potential to inform contemporary thought and policy and transform societies. We are proud to support such scholarship, which I call “rooted revival.” It bridges the timeless wisdom of the Prophetic model with the pressing realities of our time.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the CMCC for its vision, dedication, and leadership in organizing this important academic gathering. The Center continues to play a vital role in highlighting Islam’s intellectual and civilizational legacy and making it accessible to global audiences in ways that are relevant, thoughtful, and impactful.
May God bless the efforts of the organizers and make this conference a source of insight, dialogue, and a renewed commitment to justice and compassion.
