Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s College of Law (CL) and College of Science and Engineering (CSE) recently hosted Dr. Meghali Chopra, the CEO of Sandbox Semiconductor, Inc., a corporation based in Austin, Texas, which is developing a new way of fabricating semiconductors.  Speaking to a full audience at HBKU, the entrepreneur detailed the science behind her business concept and the journey of transforming ideas from an academic to a business setting.

During the Q&A portion of the session, members of the audience were given an opportunity to learn more about Dr. Chopra’s inventive process and the transition from being a student to the head of a company.  
The session aligns with the objectives of CL and CSE to build capacity in the field of intellectual property law and engage in technology transfer and the commercialization of research.

Dr. Susan L. Karamanian, dean of CL, said: "CL, which has a course on Entrepreneurship Law and is keen on helping build capacity in the field of intellectual property law, was pleased to work with CSE to make Dr. Chopra's visit possible. In addition to meeting with faculty from two Education City branch campuses, Carnegie Mellon University and Texas A&M University, Dr. Chopra had extensive interaction with HBKU faculty and.  I especially enjoyed watching Dr. Chopra interact with HBKU students, as one senses that they too hope to be in the position to have the fruits of their research and studies reach the marketplace.”

Echoing this theme, Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Dean of CSE noted, "The CSE faculty and students were inspired by the talk and the professional journey of Dr. Meghali Chopra. Technology transfer and commercialization of research is of utmost importance and is a strategic direction for our College. As a result, Dr. Chopra’s talk was in big part an affirmation of that, and her experience is a good example for our students and faculty."
