Online student recruitment marks the start of the admissions period
Preparations are underway for Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) first virtual Graduate Studies Open House. The university’s largest student recruitment event provides key information for those interested in applying to HBKU’s Master’s or PhD programs offered for the academic year 2021-2022.
Taking place between November 22 and 30, the Graduate Studies Open House is a chance to learn more about academic programs, research opportunities, admissions, and campus activities.
Moving the Graduate Studies Open House online provides the opportunity for prospective students in Qatar and abroad to participate. Each of the six colleges will host their session on a different day. This will typically involve a live welcome and discussion with college deans, as well as questions and answers with faculty, Enrolment and Student Affairs representatives.
In order to engage with an even greater number of prospective students from Qatar and abroad, a more dynamic mix of content across the university’s communications channels, including livestreams, pre-recorded presentations and Q&A sessions will be offered. In doing so, HBKU hopes to engage with an even greater number of prospective students from Qatar and around the world.
Speaking ahead of the Graduate Studies Open House, Dr. Emad El-Din Shahin, Interim Provost, said: “The open house is an opportunity to showcase our unique multidisciplinary academic programs and highlight to prospective students the importance of graduate studies. While the current health precautions explain our decision to move open house online, we’re confident that this year’s event will be as comprehensive and informative as past editions, not to mention more accessible. For instance, our daily focus on a specific college lends itself to more in-depth coverage of specific programs and research activities.
“Prospective students nevertheless retain the option to learn more about our colleges by attending as many sessions as possible. In doing so, they will discover the true extent of HBKU’s innovative research ecosystem and multidisciplinary approach to learning, inquiry and discovery. Registration for each college session is possible via our bespoke and innovative Open House website.”
Ms. Maryam Al Mannai, Vice President of Student Affairs, said: “In keeping with academic institutions around the world, HBKU is fully committed to supporting its students beyond the classroom. Open House is therefore an opportunity to learn more about the services we provide for students living and studying at Education City. These include health and wellbeing facilities, student counseling, and learning and writing assistance. HBKU is also home to an array of extracurricular activities, ranging from sports teams, clubs and pop-up events, to a Student Representative Council, student employment opportunities, and international research possibilities. The overarching aim of these activities is to ensure that our students are safe, secure and embedded within our community.”
