CIS Conference Highlights Dalā’il al-Nubuwwah

Hosted by HBKU’s CIS, the Sirah of the Prophet conference delves into the pivotal field of contemporary Islamic studies

Islamic scholars explore how Dalā’il al-Nubuwwah can address contemporary challenges in a conference session.

The Muhammad Bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilization at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS) inaugurated this year’s Sirah of the Prophet conference, held under the theme: “The Significance of Dalā’il al-Nubuwwah in Contemporary Times.”

Taking place from September 25 to 26, the conference aims to showcase how teachings from the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) life can be applied to address contemporary challenges facing Muslim communities in Qatar and beyond through expert lectures and roundtable discussions. Its comprehensive agenda covers key topics including the historical and contemporary exploration of Dalā'il al-Nubuwwah, the intersection of modern scientific thought with the logic of Dalā'il, the application of Dalā'il principles to contemporary Muslim life, and other timely issues.

Highlighting the significance of this year’s theme as a deep exploration of the core of faith and the enduring need for divine guidance in today’s world, Dr. Recep Şentürk, Dean, CIS, said: “This year's theme, Dalā'il al-Nubuwwah, is an exploration of the very foundations of faith, an affirmation of the necessity of divine guidance in an age increasingly characterized by skepticism and epistemological challenges. By hosting cornerstone events such as this conference, CIS further demonstrates its commitment to providing a uniquely composed platform that contributes to the intellectual debate and constructive dialogue on Islam in a global context.”

Various sessions throughout the conference are highlighting unique topics within this specialized field, including modern Muslim prophetology in the context of coloniality, scholarly approaches to establishing Dalā'il in the context of contemporary atheism, and how learnings from the Dalā'il literature can aid the upbringing of Muslim children today. The event is also dedicating a session to students in the field, offering them opportunities to network with their peers and established experts, thereby furthering their own academic careers.
