HBKU’s QEERI Presents Solutions for Electric Vehicles in Hot Climates at IEA Webinar

Researchers from Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, recently delivered a webinar organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on the topic 'Electric Vehicles, Infrastructure and Climate Resilience'. Dr. Marcello Contestabile, principal economist at QEERI, along with senior scientists from QEERI’s Energy Center, Dr. Sertac Bayhan and Dr. Pierre Kubiak, highlighted the work being done by the institute to support Qatar’s move towards adopting electric vehicles, and the challenges posed by the region’s environmental conditions, particularly high temperatures. The team discussed the effect of extreme hot weather on the performance and reliability of batteries and chargers, and the solutions being developed at QEERI’s Energy Center to enhance their ability to withstand these environmental factors.
