State-of-the-art facility first of its kind within the State of Qatar
Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2) has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art laboratory.
The launch of Qatar’s first quantum lab was witnessed by HBKU’s Dr. Eyad Ahmad Masad, Vice President for Research, Eng. Hamad Mohammed Al Kuwari, Vice President for Finance and Administration, and Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Dean, College of Science and Engineering. Representatives of the State of Qatar’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) were also present, meeting QC2 members of staff, including Dr. Saif Al‑Kuwari, Director, and Dr. Mohammedreza Rezaee, Lab Manager. The MoD’s presence reflects its important contribution to the formation of QC2, primarily through the provision of a $10 million grant in 2022.
Besides touring facilities, attendees learnt more about QC2’s vision to establish a vibrant quantum ecosystem in Qatar, fostering collaboration among government, academia, and industry. Doing so is expected to cultivate, sustain, and propel the advancement of quantum technologies while addressing potential challenges at home and around the world. The inauguration was also an opportunity to hear about QC2’s ongoing research activities spanning Quantum Computing, Quantum Communication, and Quantum Sensing.
