HBKU’s College of Science and Engineering Highlights New Digital Mental Health Tools at International Events

Dr. Mowafa Househ, associate professor at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has delivered two talks organized by institutions in the USA and Canada, in an effort to strengthen international collaboration. During a guest lecture at CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, New York, Dr. Mowafa spoke on AI for Mental Health: Challenges and Opportunities. Highlighting the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to prevent, diagnose, and treat mental health, he presented an overview of his work on AI for mental health in the Middle East, during the pandemic, and beyond. Dr. Mowafa also participated in the University of Calgary’s CHI Virtual Speaker Series, where he spoke on Mental Health Informatics: From Stigma to Empowerment – A Middle Eastern Perspective. During his presentation he highlighted three of the projects and applications he is currently working on: ESRA, SUKUN, and MOMEHED provide digital mental health support and are intended to empower individuals and families in Qatar and the MENA region.
