H.E. President Nataša Pirc Musar’s visit underscores the university’s role in promoting informed and dynamic cross-cultural dialogue

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) hosted Her Excellency President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar, on a visit to its campus, where she also delivered a talk on geopolitics and Slovenia’s role in promoting peace. 

By hosting world leaders and fostering high-level intellectual exchange, HBKU continues to be a catalyst for diplomacy and cross-cultural engagement. The talk exemplified the university’s commitment to connecting local perspectives with global narratives, facilitating knowledge and enriching dialogue.

The talk titled “Realities of Multipolarism vs. the Need for Multilateralism,” was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Qatar, Her ExcellencyNatalia Al Mansour; Ambassador of Qatar to the Republic of Slovenia, His ExcellencyJassim Yacoub Al Hammadi; President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, in addition to academia, policy experts, as well as members of the diplomatic community.

Elected Slovenia’s first woman head of state in 2022, President Pirc Musar shared her insights on global power shifts, the challenges of sustaining multilateral cooperation, and Slovenia’s perspective on promoting dialogue and collaborative action. She underscored the need for collective commitment to ending conflicts in Palestine, Sudan, Ukraine and other crisis-affected areas and highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive multilateralism rooted in mutual respect and shared responsibility. Additionally, she lauded Qatar for its role in conflict mediation and diplomacy, as well as its appointment of women to high-level government and policy positions.

Speaking on the importance of international cooperation, President Pirc Musar reaffirmed her belief in multilateralism as the foundation of shared global advancement adding that no single nation possesses all the knowledge it needs. Drawing on Slovenia’s diplomatic and humanitarian traditions, she highlighted her country’s continued efforts to advance peace, sustainability, and human dignity in international forums, emphasizing that small nations can play a positive role in shaping a fairer, more cohesive global order. 

President Pirc Musar’s visit to HBKU reflects the growing ties between Qatar and Slovenia, as well as the university’s expanding role in promoting informed and dynamic conversations across cultures. It also offered opportunities for deeper exchange on shared priorities, such as sustainable development, education, and intercultural understanding. Discussions during the visit also highlighted avenues for collaboration in research, innovation, and policy-oriented initiatives that contribute to global knowledge production and mutual prosperity.
