The Graduate Institute, Geneva Hosts CPP Professor to Discuss Recent Paper on UAE Foreign Aid

Dr. Logan Cochrane, associate professor at the College of Public Policy (CPP), recently gave a presentation on his new article “The United Arab Emirates as a global donor: what a decade of foreign aid data transparency reveals”, in collaboration with the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at HBKU and the Graduate Institute, Geneva.

Published in the open access journal Development Studies Research, Dr. Cochrane’s article examines the aid provided by the UAE, comparing its portfolio to other donor countries. The UAE was the first country in the region to submit detailed data on its aid to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s Development Assistance Committee. Particular attention is given to analyzing three primary recipients, Egypt, Serbia, and Yemen, and the implicit motivations driving those decisions while highlighting areas for further study to deepen understanding.

CIS is the home of the Graduate Institute’s Executive Master in Development Policies and Practices (DPP) program for the Middle East and North African (MENA) region, supported by Qatar Fund for Development.
