CSE continues its ‘Innovate.Create’ workshops on technology and computer science

Entity: College of Science and Engineering
The workshop is the latest in the ‘Innovate.Create’ series targeting potential students

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) presented a practical introduction to cybersecurity technology for high school seniors on February 26.

The program focused on multidisciplinary aspects to build their foundational understanding of some of the latest cybersecurity tools, technologies, and management methods. Students also learned about policy issues and ethics related to information technology security and cyber threats. The virtual one-day event was part of CSE’s ‘Innovate.Create’ workshops for high school students with an interest in computer engineering.

The learning experience focused on both theory and practical application. The students had the chance to work in a group setting to learn how computer engineering affects their lives and can be used to solve problems that arise. They put their training into practice by working on engineering projects and application developments under the guidance of CSE faculty members.

Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Founding Dean, CSE, said: “While many high schools offer curricula that give pupils the introduction they need, guidance by cybersecurity experts is essential to promote curiosity and interest in technologies. It also gives them the competitive advantage of developing technical skills early on. In addition, our ‘Innovate.Create’ outreach initiative gives students an idea of the educational environment they can be part of if they enroll in one of CSE’s programs, which includes a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering as a pathway to a globally competitive career or a specialized graduate degree.”

The deadline for Qatari nationals and residents who wish to apply to one of HBKU’s wide-ranging programs is March 15, 2022.
