Scientists at Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), have synthesized a new highly efficient anti-bacterial nanomaterial which is environment-friendly and is expected to be cheaper than existing commercial biocides.
Dr. Veronica Bermudez, Senior Research Director at QEERI, discusses the Paris Agreement, reached at COP21 in 2015, and whether 2020 will be the year where world leaders take the lead in tackling climate change.

Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, aspirations to develop novel solutions with a global impact was underlined by its organizing of a high-profile roundtable discussion on the importance of higher education in countering extremism, in partnership with the Institute of International Education (IIE), in New York.
One of Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press’ (HBKU Press) key objectives is to provide a literary platform for as many local and Arab voices as possible. To assist, the publishing house consistently supports new authors in finding their voices while ensuring that their creative content is distributed to as wide and relevant an audience as possible. Age is no barrier to this important mission, a point amply demonstrated by one of HBKU Press’ youngest and brightest talents to be showcased at Doha International Book Fair 2020.
Johanne Medina and Mohamed Amara constitute part of HBKU’s youngest learning cohorts, yet both have larger-than-life dreams. The students, who are enrolled in the College of Science and Engineering’s Bachelor of Computer Engineering program, have prudently aligned their ambition with that of an upcoming legacy -- Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup 2022.
Asma Al-Khulaifi, a graduate of the College of Law (‘18), has the makings of a respected legal practitioner: she is poised, expressive, and has attained considerable legal knowledge throughout her legal studies. As an alumna of the college’s inaugural class, Al-Khulaifi knew that the discipline of law would be her chosen career destiny. But it was only after two learning trips to Europe’s most sought-after cities that her career ambitions back home were ignited.
