Overview
Translation is often judged by the details readers notice first: a clumsy phrase, a flat headline, a misplaced comma, or an Arabic sentence that still sounds translated. This workshop is designed for translators who want their work to read naturally, clearly, and with purpose from the outset.
The workshop brings together three skills that are often taught separately: editing for meaning, copywriting for impact, and proofreading for accuracy. Participants will learn how to move beyond accurate transfer and produce Arabic that is clear, engaging, fluent, and ready for publication.
Through practical editing exercises, participants will work on headlines, institutional copy, profiles, captions, announcements, web content, and short promotional texts.
Structure
The workshop includes:
- Mini-lessons on Arabic style and editorial judgment
- Guided editing of translated and original Arabic texts
- Copywriting drills for titles, openings, and calls to action
- Proofreading rounds using style and accuracy checklists
- Individual and group feedback
Methodology
Each topic is approached through practical translation scenarios involving a draft, a clear purpose, a target audience, a deadline, and an editorial decision.
Participants will edit in stages: meaning first, followed by structure, style, and final proofreading. The workshop emphasizes practical application, with clear explanations for each editorial decision.
Learning Objectives
The workshop aims to help translators develop the editorial skills needed to improve a text, not simply deliver it.
- Distinguish between translation accuracy, editorial quality, persuasive impact, and proofreading detail.
- Strengthen Arabic sentence flow without compromising meaning.
- Write stronger titles, leads, captions, and short promotional texts.
- Apply practical proofreading techniques to identify errors before publication.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Apply a structured Arabic editing process
- Refine translated material for clarity, fluency, and audience needs
- Use practical checklists for copywriting, proofreading, and final review
Target Participants
The workshop is designed for translators, revisers, editors, Arabic content professionals, early-career communications practitioners, and language specialists seeking to strengthen the effectiveness of their Arabic writing.
